Invitation: Online information session on 24 July 2025 on the call for donations for The Carpentries

Background: The organisation had to withdraw an NSF grant application for USD 1.5 million, even though the project had been recommended for funding. The reason was a new NSF policy prohibiting funded organisations from offering programmes specifically for underrepresented groups. This contradicts The Carpentries' core values of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility

The organisation therefore made a conscious decision not to accept the funding. The information event will address the following questions and topics:

  • What does this mean for the future of the community?
  • What are the alternatives for funding?
  • How can we contribute to strengthening the community in the DACH region?
  • Background to the withdrawal of the NSF POSE application
  • Fundraising campaign & new funding requirements
  • Opportunities for support and participation
