ZB MED expert contributes to shaping European strategies for data curation and digital preservation
The workshop, organized in the context of the EU project EOSC EDEN-FIDELIS, brings together experts from across Europe to lay the foundations for a future European Expert Curation and Digital Preservation Network. Its aim is to share expertise and experiences, exchange best practices, and build a collaborative vision for advancing data curation and digital preservation.
The participants will actively contribute to two main outcomes:
- an initial draft of a strategic plan and roadmap for the Network, including its vision, mission and objectives,
- and an initial outline of a handbook, addressing roles, responsibilities and quality standards in data curation and digital preservation.
The background is the increasing complexity of digital research data: sustainable data curation requires not only technical standards and workflows, but also ongoing knowledge exchange across disciplines. This is where the planned Network comes in – with the goal of strengthening international dialogue and ensuring the long-term quality and reusability of research data. Ultimately, curation is an essential part of long-term preservation and thus of the enduring usability of digital objects.
The workshop will take place from 1 to 2 October 2025 in Leuven, Belgium. The EOSC-EDEN project addresses the state of the art in digital preservation, with its results feeding into the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), including tools for integrating trustworthy repositories and services.
