OLSPub Fundraising

What happens when access to medical knowledge is suddenly lost?

Reliability is crucial for research. Doctors, scientists and innovators need access to knowledge at all times, regardless of political decisions, economic interests or technical outages. Yet today, access to critical medical information relies on just a handful of external infrastructures. When these systems fail, a dangerous gap emerges – and this has consequences for research, healthcare and society as a whole.

OLSPub fills this gap.

For decades, ZB MED has championed research resilience and open access to medical knowledge. With OLSPub, we aim to build an open, freely accessible publication database for the life sciences. Designed to serve the public interest, this platform will be independent, sustainable and robust enough to ensure long-term stability.

Despite the critical importance of this infrastructure, no guaranteed government funding is currently available for OLSPub. Rather than leaving the reliability of research infrastructure to chance, ZB MED is taking a different path through fundraising as a deliberate investment in independence and future resilience.

Benefits of OLSPub:

  • It collects metadata independently.
  • It creates redundancy, not dependency.
  • It protects scientific knowledge as a public good.

Reliable knowledge infrastructure doesn't just emerge overnight. It grows over time through a shared commitment from institutions, funders and everyone who sees research as a key foundation of social responsibility.

Support OLSPub to promote research resilience and open science.

The funding for the project is divided into three phases.

  • Phase 1: 600,000 euros to develop an alpha prototype with initial data integration and basic access.
  • Phase 2: 800,000 euros to establish routine operations and integrate MeSH tagging and metadata.
  • Phase 3: 600,000 euros to complete a production-ready beta system with API access and sustainable European governance covering over 38 million publications.

You can view the detailed breakdown of each phase here. Once each phase is fully funded, we will begin implementation.

You can either donate immediately or pledge your support for the current phase. If you choose to make a pledge, your donation will only be collected via SEPA direct debit once the required funding target is reached.
