Currently, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is the sole funding body of ZB MED. The MKW-NRW took over the federal government’s share of funding after the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) withdrew its financial contribution — a commitment for which ZB MED remains deeply grateful.

Given the current budget situation, which is leading to widespread cuts across many public institutions, ZB MED understands the need for general savings measures. However, the planned reduction from 12 to 10 million euros - almost 17 percent of our total budget - would severly affect ZB MED, a key national information infrastructure for the life sciences. If no additional funding can be secured from the state of NRW or through renewed federal support, significant restrictions to our services would be unavoidable.

We are actively working to identify solutions to preserve ZB MED´s capacity and strength in providing essential scientific services.
