ZB MED supports with NFDI4Microbiota the genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2

Unfortunately, relatively few genomes of the "Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2 - SARS-CoV-2" are publicly available. Knowledge about the virus that causes COVID-19 disease must be extended immediately.

NFDI4Microbiota, the consortium of the National Research Data Infrastructure for Microbiota Research, in which ZB MED is the lead partner, is working on this. The aim is to significantly increase the number of publicly accessible genomes of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Together with partner laboratories, the involved partners help to improve the situation: 

  • support for researchers in sample preparation,
  • genome sequencing and assembly of SARS-CoV-2,
  • immediate storage of the resulting sequences in public repositories.
