Focus on developing data literacy
As part of the “Data Literacy Education.nrw” initiative, ten universities in North Rhine-Westphalia will each receive up to 300,000 euros to implement specific concepts designed to improve students’ data literacy skills. The selected universities include TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences with its “DALI - Data Literacy Initiative” project run by Professor Simone Fühles-Ubach and Professor Philipp Heidkamp. The project is headed by the vice president for academic affairs, Professor Sylvia Heuchemer, and also involves Professor Konrad Förstner, who will be incorporating various learning sessions in the project. Professor Förstner holds a professorship in Information and Data Literacy at TH Köln and also heads up the Information Services department at ZB MED. One of his key tasks in this role is to help develop information and data literacy. He also provides his skills as a trainer and educator to the non-profit organization Carpentries, which focuses on creating communities to build and develop data literacy skills.
