Commentary on the German government's responses to a minor interpellation by the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen parliamentary group
On 10 December 2025, the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen parliamentary group submitted a minor interpellation to the German Bundestag in which it addressed the growing dependence of medical research in Germany on US information infrastructures. The background to this is political and financial uncertainty in the US and specific failures of key services such as PubMed, which underline the need for resilient European alternatives. In particular, the question addresses the role of ZB MED and the OLSPub project, which aims to establish an open, fail-safe research platform for medical research.
The Federal Government responded to this question on 12 January 2026. In a commentary, ZB MED now supplements and corrects the German government's answers based on its experience and findings with the OLSPub project and current developments in US science policy.
