ZB MED awards Curation Grant for Open Research Knowledge Graph in the field of Microbiology

Call for Applications runs until 30 April 2022.

Up to now, research results have been shared mainly in scientific articles. But this system is not designed to deal with the ever-increasing flood of publications. As a result, researchers find it more difficult to keep track of the results, even in small research areas. This ultimately leads to a loss of knowledge. The Open Research Knowledge Graph (ORKG) is working on a digital solution to this problem. In the ORKG, research contributions are made human-readable as well as machine-actionable. This enables the use of new forms of machine support and lets researchers share their results in new ways. In so doing, the full potential of digitisation can be harnessed for science.

The ORKG Curation Grants:

ORKG Curation Grants give researchers - advanced PhD students welcome - the opportunity to improve the representation of their field in ORKG. In doing so, grantees can increase their knowledge of the semantic description of research and enhance their visibility. In return, the ORKG team gets valuable feedback and more content in ORKG. Last year, the Curation Grants started with nine researchers from different fields of science, engineering and computer science. This year, the programme aims to be broader in terms of subject matter, working with two partners - the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security and ZB MED. ZB MED offers a scholarship in the field of microbiology, e.g. microbiomes, metagenomics but also classical bacteriology, virology, parasitology etc.

Applications are open between 10 March and 30 April 2022. Grantees will receive 400 euros per month over the course of six months. The programme starts in June 2022.
