Working Group on Medical Librarianship met in Bonn
The Working Group for Medical Librarianship (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für medizinisches Bibliothekswesen e.V., AGMB) organises an annual conference at different locations each year. This year the conference took place for the first time in Bonn. Three Bonn institutions joined forces to form the local committee: the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, the University and State Library and the ZB MED - Information Centre for Life Sciences, which has branches in Cologne and Bonn. Around 130 representatives from university libraries, specialist medical libraries and hospital libraries met under the motto: future - now more than ever!
The programme included lectures, discussions, workshops and a poster exhibition on topics of particular interest to the professional audience, such as systematic reviews, the approval of new drugs or the research data management of personal health data. It also covered topics of general interest to librarians, such as predatory publishing and science tracking. In addition, many companies, such as publishers and information service providers, presented their products in an exhibition and in product reviews.
The AGMB e.V. pursues the promotion of the medical library and information sector as its overriding goal. To this end, the association provides advice on all questions relating to the above-mentioned fields, promotes cooperation between all persons and organisations active in these fields, undertakes the development of joint projects and produces expert reports. The AGMB also publishes the open access journal GMS Medizin - Bibliothek - Information (GMS-MBI). The next issue of the journal will include detailed coverage of the conference.
