ZB MED - Information Centre for Life Sciences has already been a member of the nestor network since 2010. The digital preservation team uses it to network with institutions throughout Germany that are also active in this area. Due to the rapid technical changes in digital text publications and research data, new challenges regarding long-term archiving are constantly arising for institutions of science and research as well as for cultural institutions. Cooperation in the nestor competence network makes it possible to meet these challenges together and develop viable solutions. nestor supports the exchange on new approaches as well as the development of common standards and certification options. The network facilitates the implementation of cross-institutional projects, organises conferences such as the nestor practitioners' day and is also committed to international networking and joint public relations work. The newly founded nestor association now gives the network a permanent legal framework.

The ZB MED team is actively involved in the nestor network: as a member of the nestor steering committee, the nestor coordination group and various nestor working groups.
