Ziel der Weiterbildung ist die systematische Qualifizierung zur psychosozialen Unterstützung von Krebskranken und deren Angehörigen. Schwerpunkte sind:

- psychoonkologische und medizinische Grundlagen

- theoretische und praktische Kenntnisse spezifischer psychoonkologischer Diagnostik und Interventionen

- Selbsterfahrung und kritische Reflexion der eigenen beruflichen Praxis

Der Vermittlung von Interdisziplinarität und Kooperationsfähigkeit unter Berücksichtigung der jeweiligen institutionellen Rahmenbedingungen psychoonkologischer Tätigkeit kommt hierbei besondere Bedeutung zu.
