Die Behandlung neonatologischer und pädiatrischer Intensivpatienten ist in jeder Hinsicht sehr anspruchsvoll. Gerade die verschiedenen Altersgruppen der pädiatrischen Patienten weisen derart große Unterschiede zum Beispiel in der Atemphysiologie oder der Wärmeregulation auf, dass ausreichende Kenntnisse, Erfahrung und Ausrüstung im Umgang mit diesen Besonderheiten unabdingbare Voraussetzung für die Kinderintensivmedizin sind.
