NFDI4Microbiota launched
The National Research Data Infrastructure for Microbiota Research - as it is fully named - has set itself the task of supporting the microbiological research community in Germany. To achieve this, the consortium will create data hubs, provide tools for data analysis, develop standards for data and metadata, and set up a comprehensive training program over the next five years. NFDI4Microbiota is part of the DFG-funded National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). Therefore, networking with other subject-specific NFDI consortia is planed with the aim to create common solutions and establish standards.
As a central infrastructure and research institute for the life sciences, ZB MED contributes scientific expertise as well as experience in research-supporting activities. ZB MED is involved in three funded consortia within the NFDI:
- NFDI4Microbiota consists of ten partner institutions and more than 50 participating institutions. The consortium is represented by the dual leadership of Prof. Dr. Alice McHardy (HZI) and Prof. Dr. Konrad Förstner (ZB MED).
- NFDI4DataScience startet ebenfalls am 1.Oktober 2021. NFDI4DataScience aims to establish a community-driven research data infrastructure for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. In this regard, it focuses on several types of data and artifacts established within the community. ZB MED is one of 15 partners and co-applicant. NFDI4DataScience is coordinated by Fraunhofer FOKUS.
- NDFI4Health began work last year under the consortium leadership of ZB MED. Prof. Dr. Juliane Fluck is one of two spokespersons for the National Research Data Infrastructure for Personal Health Data.
