As a data and information infrastructure for the life sciences, ZB MED plays a central role for the life sciences in Germany. In its additional function as a research institution, ZB MED forms a national hub for cooperation at local, regional and national as well as international level.
Close cooperation at local level takes place with universities in Cologne, Bonn and Bielefeld. Regionally and nationally, ZB MED cooperates with university and non-university research institutions.
Institutes of the Leibniz Association play a special role. For example, intensive cooperation is maintained with the two other central libraries ZBW* - Leibniz Information Centre for Economics and TIB* - Leibniz Information Centre for Technology and Natural Sciences. Other important cooperation partners are university libraries as well as other scientific institutions and academic libraries from Germany and abroad.
Within the framework of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), ZB MED cooperates at key points in several consortia within a broad network.
