In its ruling of 12 May 1998, Hamburg District Court stipulated that a website may be held jointly responsible for the contents of other websites if it includes direct or indirect links to these websites on its own pages, unless the website in question expressly distances itself from said contents. As a precautionary measure, ZB MED hereby expressly distances itself from the contents of all linked pages.

ZB MED is not responsible for any of the information supplied by providers to which it makes reference or provides links.

Anonymous data collection

You are entitled to use any of  the web pages of ZB MED - Information Centre for Life Sciences without telling us who you are. The only information we receive is the name of your Internet Service Provider, the referring web page that brought you to our website, and the web pages you access on our website. This information is analysed for statistical purposes but, as an individual user, you remain anonymous in this process.

Collection and processing of personal data

Personal data is only collected if you provide it to us voluntarily – for example when you order literature, fill out a survey, or sign up for our personalised services.

Provided that you have given your consent, your registration data will be processed within the scope of ZB MED's personalised services for the purposes of providing information on our range of products and services, conducting market research, and tailoring our electronic services to meet your needs. Furthermore, providing that you have given your consent, the information you access while visiting ZB MED's website will be merged into a user profile to enable us to offer you information that is tailored to your interests.

Data transfer and processing to/in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA)

No personal data is transferred to countries outside the EEA.

Use and disclosure of personal data

Unless you additionally provide consent for other purposes, the personal data collected through ZB MED's web pages will only be used for order processing/contract fulfilment and for handling your enquiries. In addition – provided that you have previously given your consent – your data shall be used for the purposes of providing information on our range of products and services, conducting market research, and tailoring our electronic services to meet your needs.

We shall only use your data to tailor information to your personal interests if you have provided your consent for this purpose, too. You are of course entitled to withdraw your consent at any time with future effect in regard to any of the above.

External links

In order to optimise the information presented to you, our web pages include links to third-party websites. Where this is not already obvious from the context, we explicitly draw your attention to the fact that these links take you to third-party content. ZB MED has no influence on, and is not responsible for, the content and design of external providers’ websites. For this reason, the data protection guarantees contained in this privacy policy do not apply in relation to any external websites.

Use of Facebook Social Plugins

This website uses social plugins provided by the social networking site, which is operated by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA. The plugins are identified by the Facebook logo or the phrase “Facebook Social Plugin”. When you visit a page of our website that contains a social plugin, a direct link is established between your browser and Facebook’s servers. Facebook transfers the plugin content directly to your browser and embeds the content into the page. The embedded plugin notifies Facebook that you have accessed the corresponding page on our website. If you are logged in to Facebook, Facebook can assign your visit to your Facebook account. If you interact with the plugins – for example by clicking “Like” or by entering a comment – the corresponding information is transmitted from your browser directly to Facebook, which then stores this information. To learn more about the purpose and scope of this data collection process, the way in which Facebook processes and uses this data, the rights you have in this respect, and the settings you can use to protect your privacy, please see Facebook’s Privacy Policy.

Demographic data from Google Analytics

This website uses the “demographic characteristics” feature of Google Analytics.  This enables reports to be created containing information on the age, gender, and interests of visitors to a website. This data is derived from interest-based advertising from Google as well as from visitor data from third-party providers. This data cannot be assigned to any specific person. You can disable this feature at any time through the ad settings in your Google account, or prevent Google Analytics from collecting any of your data by following the instructions in the “Opt-out from data collection” section.

Universal Analytics

Our website uses Google Analytics, including the Universal Analytics features. Universal Analytics allows us to analyse activity on our website across multiple devices (e.g. if a user initially accesses our site via a laptop and subsequently using a tablet). This is made possible by assigning an anonymous user ID to each user. Such an assignment will be made, for example, if you register for a customer account or log in to your customer account. No personal data will be transmitted to Google, however. Even though Universal Analytics adds new functions to Google Analytics, data protection measures such as IP masking or the browser add-on will not be affected.

In order to compile more accurate statistics on our website, we use the free web analytics software AWStats. This software is employed to analyse log files that are created by web servers on the basis of user queries. AWStats does not use cookies and the statistical analysis is conducted using the log files, which also contain IP addresses. These IP addresses are, however, anonymised. This data is not combined with any other data sources, and AWStats does not transfer any data to third-party servers. The programme is installed on our own hosting package. The server is located in Germany, so no data is transmitted outside Germany.
