In this workshop, researchers learn automation with the Unix shell, programming with Python and versioning with Git - skills that they can immediately apply in their own research and that make their work more efficient and reproducible. We base both the materials and the teaching methodology on the concept of "The Carpentries". This is a non-profit organisation where mostly volunteers are involved. Several ZB MED employees are active there as certified instructors. 

For the Software Carpentry Workshop we invite researchers from the life sciences who have little or no prior computational experience. Even those with some experience will benefit because the instructors create an open and friendly learning environment. There is also plenty of room for practical exercises. After attending this workshop you will be able to

1. automate repetitive tasks,
2. write small programs that can analyse your data,
3. keep a history of your research work,
4. work collaboratively on documents.
