Kurzinfo

Recent studies demonstrate that 15% of all human cancers are caused by viral infections. Human papillomavirus (HPV) accounts for approximately 600,000 cases including different forms of anogenital cancers, oropharyngeal cancers as well as skin cancers worldwide. HPV-related carcinogenesis is well investigated in anogenital tumors. However, the oncogenic mechanisms of these viruses in the development of carcinomas outside the genital region, especially in the oropharynx and skin, are not well understood. To unravel the underlying oncogenic mechanisms will help to develop innovative therapeutic strategies in the future.

To facilitate the scientific exchange and to discuss the importance of HPV genus-specific and cross-genus virus-host interactions, it is our great pleasure to announce the 1st Cologne Symposium on missing links in HPV biology focusing on head & neck and skin cancer taking place from May 17 – 18, 2019.

The aim is to discuss the importance of HPV genus-specific and cross-genus virus-host interactions. This international meeting provides a platform for experts in the field to discuss their latest research and scientific experience with scientists and clinicians working on or interested in HPV associated diseases. We are delighted that the following experts will address these aspects during six sessions:

Epidemiology
Herbert Pfister - Cologne, DE • Ulrike Wieland - Cologne, DE • Sjoerd H van der Burg - Leiden, NL

Immunology
Cindrilla Chumduri - Berlin, DE • Tim Waterboer - Heidelberg, DE • Anders Näsman - Stockholm, SE

Genomics
Julie George - Cologne, DE • Ernst Jan Speel - Maastricht, NL • Ruud H Brakenhof - Amsterdam, NL

Stem cell and differentiation
Michael Herfs - Liege, BE • Girish Patel - Cardiff, UK • Frank Rösl - Heidelberg, DE • Elizabeth White - Philadelphia, US

Carcinogenesis
Gilles Traves - Strasbourg, FR • Nicholas N Wallace - Manhattan, US • Karl Münger - Boston, US

Epigenetics
Daniele Bergamaschi - London, UK • Magnus von Knebel Doeberitz - Heidelberg, DE • Jochen Hess - Heidelberg, DE

We are expecting a highly interactive meeting sparked by the panel of internationally renowned speakers, who will discuss their latest research developments with an audience of scientists and physicians. We hope that the symposium will inspire in-depth discussions that can be the basis for new interdisciplinary collaborations.

Free online registration required: Following the tradition of the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) the participation in the Symposium is free of charge. Online registration

We are looking forward to meeting you and the members of your institution at the Symposium in May 2019.

Sincerely yours
