Which e-book packages are available in full-text versions?

In its role as a medical faculty library, the ZB MED provides access to e-book packages that fall within its subject areas. These have been acquired under national licences funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), which means they can be accessed for free throughout Germany.

The following packages are available through the ZB MED:

Collection of 1,307 English-language eBooks published by Springer in the field of medicine between 2005 and 2008. Also includes some French and Spanish editions.

Collection of 419 English-language e-books published by the medical publisher Karger over a number of years, including some complete book series. The collection covers a broad range of biomedical sciences.

How can I identify e-books in the search portals?

In our search portals MEDPILOT and GREENPILOT, e-books are identified in the list of search results by a pictogram and by the ‘National licence’ link. You can also use the document type search filter to specifically search for e-books.

You can find out more about search filters (German only) and identifying e-books included in the national licence scheme (German only) on the MEDPILOT site.

Help! I can’t access one of the e-books!

If for some reason you are unable to access an e-book which is shown as being included in the national licence, there is another option: German institutions and private individuals who are permanently resident in Germany can register to use the national licences for free by visiting www.nationallizenzen.de.

Using e-books in the reading room

Computers with Internet access are available in the library's reading room for research purposes. You will need a library card to use these Internet access points. No word processing software is installed on the computers. You can either print your research results, send them by e-mail, or save them to a USB stick.

Please respect copyright!

If you wish to use e-books, please remember that you must adhere strictly to the following general conditions of use:

  • e-book chapters may only be printed and saved to storage media for personal use and research purposes. They may not be forwarded to third parties either electronically or in printed form.
  • The systematic downloading of e-books, particularly by robots, contravenes the terms of the license and is prohibited.

Any breaches of licensing terms or copyright law will be traced by the publishers and could lead to the revocation of the entire campus license!

In addition, please ensure you observe the terms of use specified by the publisher:
