ZB MED takes steps to improve its website

Cologne, 18 February 2013 – The German National Library of Medicine (ZB MED), which specialises in the fields of medicine, health, and nutritional, environmental and agricultural science, has announced that it will start using the web analytics tool etracker to improve the information it offers on its website. As well as analysing the usage information for the website www.zbmed.de, etracker will also analyse the traffic to the ZB MED search portals MEDPILOT and GREENPILOT.

“Our goal is to constantly improve the website experience for our customers,” says Ulrich Korwitz, Director of the ZB MED. “To do that, we need to understand how people use our website and analyse the traffic to our search portals MEDPILOT and GREENPILOT. That's the only way we can be sure that we're offering our users what they really want.”

The ZB MED hopes that etracker will provide a wealth of useful data, for example by identifying the number of users who surf the website on smartphones. “We’re planning to improve the way our website works on mobile devices, so it's obviously important to know which devices people are actually using to access the ZB MED,” says Korwitz. etracker also identifies the web pages that attract most visitors, and the web pages that people use least.
The ZB MED deliberately chose a German company to provide the service to ensure that it would be subject to German data protection and privacy regulations. etracker does not collect any personally identifiable data and does not store complete IP addresses which could be used to identify visitors to the website. If, however, you do not wish any data whatsoever to be collected, you can choose to opt out of the etracker system.
