Improving access

The ZB MED is continuously engaged in the task of improving access to its holdings by evaluating and indexing selected tables of contents of journals and monographs.

CC MED / CC GREEN

CC MED

German-language journals and journals published by German publishers are not properly represented in international databases such as Medline and Embase – and in many cases are not included at all. To improve the bibliographic referencing of medical publications comprising individual articles from German journals, the ZB MED has been offering its Current Contents Service “CC MED” since autumn 2000 for the subject areas of medicine and health. In 2010, this service was expanded to include the subject areas of nutrition, the environment and agricultural science. Bibliographic references to the individual articles are provided through the subject portals MEDPILOT and GREENPILOT.

How can I search these databases in MEDPILOT and GREENPILOT?

Click on the link below to open a customized MEDPILOT search page where the search function has already been restricted to CC MED. Enter a term to search for it in CC MED only,

http://www.medpilot.de/?idb=CCMED

Even if you have already run a search from the normal MEDPILOT homepage, it is still not too late to filter out everything apart from the hits from the CC MED database:
Simply click on "CC MED" in the "database" list on the left of the screen

Searching the database is free of charge. You can place an order for the full texts of the articles that match your search term from within MEDPILOT.

Please download our Quick Guide (PDF file) for more information on searching the database.

Current status:

  • Scope: 850 journal titles subjected to continuous evaluation (List of publications covered by CC MED)
  • Database size: 600,000 journal articles
  • Bibliographic references of journals published from 2000 onwards

CC GREEN

As part of the expansion of GREENPILOT, the German Research Foundation gave the go-ahead for the CC GREEN project in 2010, covering the subject areas of nutrition, the environment and agricultural science. CC GREEN is currently still at the technical development stage.

Catalogue Enrichment

Thanks to our catalogue enrichment process, you can browse the tables of contents of media without having to take them out on loan. That makes it easier and quicker to decide whether you need an item for your research.

What does catalogue enrichment involve?

The process basically involves scanning in the table of contents and linking the scan (e.g. a PDF file) to the item’s catalogue entry. A direct link from our catalogue takes you straight to the scanned-in table of contents so you can access the information you need right away. It is important that the tables of contents are searchable, so we incorporate the key, subject-relevant terms from the table of contents as search words in our search portals MEDPILOT and GREENPILOT. This improves the relevancy and scope of your search results.

Development

The catalogue enrichment process began in 2005 with 60,000 monographs from the years 2000 to 2005 from the ZB MED’s medicine and health subject areas. The team then started working through the tables of contents of monographs acquired since 2005. Once the process was up and running, the catalogue enrichment project also succeeded in incorporating the subject areas of nutrition, the environment and agricultural science in 2009.

As of May 2010, our catalogues contain some 140,000 tables of contents.
