How can you use the library?
- To take books out on loan, you will need authorization in the form of a library card.
- If you only wish to browse or make copies of books or journals in our reading room, you will not require a library card to do this.
- As a general rule, digitalisation of literature using scanners or digital cameras is prohibited for copyright reasons. Please consult library management for more information.
- Desktop computers (not including word processing software) and WLAN are available in the reading rooms. You are welcome to bring your own laptop.

If you simply wish to browse the items you have selected, you can do this in the reading room during our normal opening hours:

How can I prepare for my visit?
- How to pre-order older volumes of journals (published prior to 1985):
If you require a large number of journal volumes dating back to before 1984, we recommend that you order these two days in advance.

Work space and Wi-Fi
Our reading room provides plenty of space for individuals and groups to work in a calm and conducive environment. It also offers computers with Internet access for scientific research purposes. Wi-Fi (wireless Internet access) is freely available in the public areas of the ZB MED Medicine. Health. To connect to the Wi-Fi network of the University of Cologne ('UniKoeln-802.1X' or 'UniKoeln-WEB'), you will need to download and install a VPN client (https://lizenzsoftware.uni-koeln.de/vpn/). To do this, users can apply for an account with the University of Cologne. For more details, including information on how to obtain a guest account, please see http://www.uni-koeln.de/rrzk/benutzung/accounts.
Accessibility
Wheelchair users can access all the floors of the ZB MED's Cologne site. Please go to the lending desk and be ready to leave some form of identification in exchange for the keycard or key which you will need:
- to access the cloakroom in the basement (lift requires a keycard);
- to access the top floor of the LFI building (lift requires a key).
Disabled toilets are available on the first floor and second floor of the main building (key available from the lending desk). All the other floors can be reached without any special access arrangements.
Cloakroom
A cloakroom and lockers are located in the basement. Please bring your own padlock. Only a small number of padlocks are available to borrow each day - these require you to leave a 10 euro deposit. It is not permitted to leave items in the lockers overnight. All the lockers will be opened for security reasons after the library has closed.
Please use one of the baskets provided next to the lift on the ground floor if you wish to take your own documents and papers into the library.
Baby changing room
A changing room for babies and toddlers is located in the disabled toilets on the ground floor (opposite the lending desk). The key is available from the lending desk.

Wi-fi (wireless Internet access) is freely available in the public areas of the ZB MED Bonn. The library also provides microfilm/microfiche readers.
Cloakroom
Cloakroom lockers are available on the ground floor. To use the lockers, you will need to insert a 2 euro piece which will be returned to you once you have finished using the locker.
