CC MED - Current Contents Medicine
Database of German and German-Language Journals
CC MED continuously evaluates more than 850 German and German-language journals (either written in German or published in Germany) in medical and health-related fields and provides links to the articles in the MEDPILOT search portal. This search portal is available for free on the Internet for research purposes.
Citations in CC MED are generated from the tables of contents of the journal issues or from metadata supplied with the articles (e.g. German Medical Science).
CC MED was established in 2000 with funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Development
In the first few years of the project, the tables of contents of the journals were scanned in and then immediately converted into text files. Words that were marked as incorrect and hyphenations that were not recognised by the software were cleaned up manually. Details of the source were automatically added when the data record was created. Before the imported data was incorporated in the CC MED database, it was prepared using an add-on application and additional information was added such as the ISSN, identification numbers and the journal classification.
Thanks to the introduction of a new system at the start of 2010, the CC MED workflow has now been streamlined. Separating the scanning process from the preparation of the scanned documents has speeded up the system considerably, and scanning management software is now used to ensure seamless job tracking. In addition, the journal title's metadata is now loaded into the CC MED system directly from the catalogue. Manual improvements are now only required within the article data itself, which minimises the overall effort involved.
CC MED feeds its data into the search index of the MEDPILOT portal.
The database offers a Z39.50 interface as standard, which makes it possible to integrate it in external portals. The Z39.50 target profile and access data is available on request.
