Free DOI registration for academic institutions
New service offered by German DataCite members
Cologne, 15 January 2013 – A new service has been introduced this year offering academic institutions free registration of Digital Object Identifiers, or DOIs, which guarantee the persistent identification and citation of electronic publications and research data. The decision to offer the service for free was taken by the German members of the international not-for-profit organisation DataCite e.V. at their general meeting in December 2012, namely the GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB), the German National Library of Medicine (ZB MED) and the German National Library of Economics – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics (ZBW).
